A cracking match with both teams turning in excellent performances on a pitch that was reminiscent of the Baseball Ground in the 1970s - jumpers for goal posts, Jimmy Hill on MotD, painting the penalty spot, marvellous!! (kids, ask your Dad!).
Brentwood started the better and put Thames under quite a bit of early pressure but the defence held firm and Alex helped settle the team down with some confident handling.  A few silly free kicks given away around the area didn’t help us but as the half continued we got to grips with the pitch and started to push forward.  Jake came close with a fierce shot at the end of a good passing move, Danny and Joe also had efforts that didn’t test the keeper as well as we would have liked, mainly due to the mud stopping us getting hold of the shot.  Josh had a goal ruled out for offside after he swept the ball in when the keeper failed to hold Danny’s shot.
In the second half we improved further and took the lead when Joe threaded a great pass to Danny who finished well.  We piled on the pressure and should have put the game beyond doubt.  Danny hit the post twice, Michael headed just wide from a corner and was unlucky with a first time left foot volley, Tom and Joe had a couple of chances from outside the area.  Brentwood had their moments as well, Josh made a great block on the line, Alex made a good reaction save and Bricey and Tyler were often in the thick of the action at the back.  Daniel and Kieran defended well and also got forward plenty of times to support the attack.
And then the killer blow – a Brentwood corner in the last minute turned in as the striker was first to react. At the end it felt more like we had lost than drawn but we should take heart from what was a superb performance in difficult conditions.  A well earned point from an entertaining game.  Our thanks to Brentwood for a sporting match and we look forward to the return later in the season. Well played everyone.

Man of the MatchKieran.  Some excellent defending and good overlapping runs.
